Feb 17 - 21, 2017

Porpoise Bay Charters

10 dives

  • Overview
  • FAQ

The tides look great this weekend! Kal will pick the specific dive sites after the tide book is issued, but we should get some dives in the Skookumchuck as well as on Captain's Wall and Agamemnon's Wall. Since this will be the end of February, I'm hoping for some great winter visibility, with a chance for some early nice spring weather if we're lucky.

  • Saturday: 3 dives
  • Sunday: 3 dives
  • Monday: 3 dives

Directions

  1. Drive to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry, 6750 Keith Road, West Vancouver, BC V7W 2V1. (There are other ferry terminals in the area, so make sure you go to the Horseshoe Bay terminal.) This is ~ 1 hr 20 minutes north of the boarder, without traffic.
    1. If driving up in the morning, people usually choose to leave the Portland area ~ 3 am.
    2. If driving up the night before, people usually choose to stay north of Seattle (to avoid Seattle morning traffic).
    3. The Peace Arch boarder crossing is open 24 hours, with a Nexus line that opens at 7 am. They Lynden crossing opens at 8 am and has no Nexus line.
  2. Take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale. The 11:30 am to 12:10 ferry would get you to Egmont at the right time if you drive straight through. If you want to stop on the way, (e.g., in Sechelt) there is an earlier Ferry that leaves at 10:25 am. Ferry reservations are recommended. Arrive at the ferry between 30 - 60 minutes before departure (10:30 - 11 am for the later ferry, 9:25 - 9:55 am for the later ferry). If you arrive later, you will likely be put in the standby line.
  3. Drive ~ 1 hr 20 minutes to the Government Dock in Egmont, next to Bathgate's General Store (1376 Port Mellon Highway, Langdale, BC V0N 1V0 to 6780 Bathgate Rd, Egmont, BC V0N 1N0).
  4. We will wait for Kal to arrive ~ 1:30 pm, load the boat with all of our items for the weekend, park our cars, then take the ~ 10 min boat ride to Strongwater Retreat. We won't return to the dock until its time to go home.
  5. We'll unload the boat and prepare for the first dive. (We won't have lunch here, so plan ahead. Eating on the ferry, bringing a lunch, or taking the early ferry and eating in Sechelt are options.)

What to Bring

  1. Passport and/or Nexus card
  2. If you bring your own tanks, you only need two. If you want to use Kal's please let us know.
